Tour of Bahamas International Cycling Event

FloridaVelo takes two podiums at the prestigious Tour of Bahamas held this past weekend in the island of Nassau. Barbara Danielson won every stage and the overall 1st. place in Women 3-4, and MIchael Chiarella won 3rd. place in Men 3-4.

The grueling competition took place over 3 stages: 3 miles individual time trial on Saturday morning, 42 miles circuit race on Saturday afternoon, and 70 miles road race on Sunday morning.

Barbara Danielson broke away at mile 20 and rode solo for the next 50 miles. She won every stage of the flat out fast and windy event. "It showed me that I am ready to compete with the best this year" said Barbara.

Michael Chiarella covered various attacks and kept himself in the front pack. His consistency and patience earned him valuable seconds of difference. "I am very happy to see that all the training over the winter worked" said Michael."

Kevin Danielson rode with the Masters category, and took 3rd. place in the final sprint of the road race. His fitness and serious strength showed that he is ready to take on the Florida Points Series.

Pablo Santa Cruz competed in the PRO12 category and tested all aspects of his fitness and readiness for the season. The large field was lead by top flight professional teams at average speeds of over 30mph.

A special thanks goes out to fellow FloridaVelo member Carol Sugar, who also made the trip. Carol served as team photographer, cheerleader and manager, and provided assistance in any way she could. Her contribution did not go unnoticed.
